Round Brilliant Diamonds
Round Brilliant Diamond Shape
The Round Brilliant Cut diamond is the most traditional and popular cut of all. At Green Diamonds we offer a large selection of Round Brilliant Cut diamonds at prices to suit your budget.

The dazzling sparkle of a perfectly cut round brilliant diamond is unparalleled.  Round Brilliants account for more than three quarters of Diamonds on the market!! The next most popular shape is the Princess Cut.

The original round brilliant-cut was developed by Marcel Tolkowsky in 1919.
A Round Brilliant diamond consists of 58 facets.

The round diamond shape is optimized for light refraction, so that the light both enters and exits the crown, thus producing the best possible fire and scintillation. Because of its exceptional light display qualities, even a lower quality clarity, color or even cut can still be striking, more so than any other shape.

Green Diamonds has a large selection of engagement rings to suit Round Brilliant Cut diamonds.
Princess Cut Diamonds

Princess Cut Diamond Shape
The Princess cut is the second most popular cut shape for diamonds, after the Round Brilliant. The face-up shape of the princess cut is square or rectangular and the profile or side-on shape is similar to that of an inverted pyramid with four beveled sides. The princess cut is a relatively new diamond cut, having been created in the 1960s. It has gained in popularity in recent years as a more distinctive alternative to the more popular round brilliant cut, in which the top of diamond, called the crown, is cut with a round face-up shape and the bottom, called the pavilion, is shaped similar to a cone.

The princess cut is sometimes referred to as a square modified brilliant. However, while displaying the same high degree of brilliance, its faceting style is quite unique and completely different from that of a round brilliant.

The square princess cut diamond is usually slightly cheaper than round brilliant cut diamonds of the same carat weight because it retains about 80% of the rough diamond, as opposed to the round brilliant which retains only about 50% of the rough. The ability to retain more crystal weight makes this shape popular amongst diamond cutters.

Oval Cut Diamonds

Oval Cut Diamond Shape

The Oval Shape diamond is a beautiful cut, its brilliance similar to that of the Round Brilliant Cut diamond, from which it derives its variation. At Green Diamonds we offer a selection of Oval Shape diamonds at prices to suit your budget.

For those not wanting the traditional Round Brilliant Cut but desire its brilliance and fire, the Oval Shape is an excellent selection. Ovals can be short and fat or long and thin - (entirely your preference).  The longer the shape, the 'sharper' the diamond will look; the shorter the shape, the 'softer' the diamond will look. Always choose the highest grade, colour and cut that your budget can accommodate. The 'bow-tie effect' can sometimes show itself in the Oval Shape cut (a dark area across the centre of the diamond) - this must be minimal, as it will detract from the beauty, brilliance and value of the diamond. Well proportioned Oval cuts should have a minimal bow tie effect.  To minimise the bow-tie effect, it is best to avoid excessively deep or shallow stones.

Cushion Cut Diamonds
Cushion Cut Diamond Shape

Cushion Cut diamonds are very popular and at Green Diamonds you can find a selection of Cushion Cut diamonds at prices to suit your budget. Green Diamonds has a large selection of engagement rings to suit Cushion Cut diamonds. Cushion Cut is a generic name for the 'Old Mine Cut' that was developed before the turn of the century. These days, the name "Cushion" is often used for coloured stones cut in this shape. A Cushion Cut is a square or square like, rectangular cut with rounded corners and 58 brilliant-style facets that resemble a pillow shape. Hence the name. A hundred years ago, when Cushion Cuts were first developed, diamonds were not cleaved into two pieces of rough as they are today; they were ground down as a single stone and the resulting polish was lumpy and thick. Cushion Cuts have very thin girdles and bigger culets than today's full-cut diamonds. Designers are requesting Cushion Cuts with big culets, but, in general, the smaller the culet, the better the stone. Older Cushion Cuts return light in blocky patterns; newly cut ones return light in needle like patterns. Cushion Cut diamonds are popular in matching pairs. They are especially being used in larger-carat earrings and also as a centre stone in rings. The Cushion Cut first became popular again about ten years ago and the demand for the shape has steadily continued.

The Marquise Shape diamond is beautiful and dramatic and at Green DIamonds we offer a selection of Marquise Shape diamonds at prices to suit your budget. Green Diamonds has a large selection of  engagement rings to suit Marquise Shape diamond cuts. The Marquise Shape is a daring, elegant and stunning cut much desired in engagement rings, earrings and pendants. The Marquise Shape diamond can be featured either horizontally or vertically, depending on your preference. This cut is a variation of the Round Brilliant Cut, but cannot match it for its brilliance and precision; therefore, the sparkle and dispersion of light will not be of the same intensity - however, the better the precision of cut and proportion, the more intense the brilliance of the sparkle. Along the same lines, the 'bow-tie' effect (a dark area across the middle of the diamond) must be minimal (this unfortunately cannot be avoided entirely) and a well-proportioned Marquise Shape diamond will reflect this.

Baguette Shape Diamonds
Baguette Shape Diamond
The Baguette Diamond is a rectangular shape diamond - from the French word "Baguette". Green Diamonds offer a selection of baguette diamond at prices to suit your budget. They appear to look similar to Emerald cut Diamonds, but with no mitred (cut-off) corners which make them octagonal rather than oblong. it is characterized by square corners with rows of step-cut or steplike facets parallel to the table, straight cut Baguette Diamonds are relatively small. Baguette diamonds are very popular as side stones, although they are becoming popular as the centrepiece. The clean, simple lines of a baguette cut diamond make it a striking and powerful. The straight lines and square corners give it a contrast to the curvy, lines in the band and setting. The Baguette diamond is truly versatile. Baguettes are also used to produce a continuous flow of diamonds on a ring. Baguette diamonds are usually set in a channel style, but prong are sometimes used. Baguette diamonds are also sold in measured millimetres more often than weight because their size must be specific for their purpose. Baguette diamonds are extraordinarily clear, therefore we suggest a VS clarity and or higher. If baguettes are to be used as side stones or as other matched pairs, they should be similar in quality, colour and clarity to one another, and to the stone they are enhancing. No matter what your choice or style of your ring, the baguette diamond is an excellent one for its elegance and classical style.
